In Elementary Music class, children learn and practice a range of vocal ensemble pieces, and have opportunities to share their soloist and instrumental talents on a weekly basis.
Our music teacher is Mrs. Hatch. Herself a professional vocalist, Mrs. Hatch shapes her lessons in music theory, history and performance with the goal of making music a joyful part of her students’ lives.
The Elementary Music curriculum incorporates methodology from the Orff music program, combining movement, instruments, speech and song. As Mrs. Hatch observes, “Whether singing, dancing, listening, or playing an instrument, music is the ultimate language of the heart.”
In Musical Movement, our licensed Early Childhood Education specialist and certified dance teacher Mrs. Lasher engages our youngest children with fun lessons incorporating rhythmic patterning and exercise to build coordination, muscle tone and motor skills. Musical Movement’s active learning curriculum incorporates Multiple Intelligence Theory and is designed to challenge and engage students across a spectrum of developmental levels and learning styles.
In addition to music and drama that’s woven into instruction across our campus, there are several other opportunities for ACS students to shine, including Starmites, ASSETS and summer theater camps.
