Visual Arts

Being free to discover one's own creativity is an opportunity of a lifetime. At ACS, that opportunity is here everyday.

Our goal in the visual arts program at Almaden Country School is to help children discover their distinct creative talents, apply learned art knowledge (theory and history), build confidence and encourage students to apply their expressive skills in all aspects of their lives.

Two art specialists conduct classes in grades 1-8. All elementary students attend art class twice weekly. The curriculum includes:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Mixed media construction
  • Experiences with a wide range of media including pencil, pen, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, 3-D construction, clay and weaving.

Students also learn studies of folk and multicultural art, important artists and artistic movements.

In the middle school program, students choose from multiple art electives including:

  • 2-D Art and Design
  • 3-D Art and Sculpture
  • Calligraphy and Design
  • Studio Art
  • Set Design
  • Digital Photography
  • Web Design

Each year, ACS student artwork is selected for exhibitions in city and county art shows, and our students also routinely enter and win awards in local art contests. Artwork from every child in the Visual Arts program is featured in our annual All School Student Exhibition and Talent Showcase (ASSETS) in the spring, a popular event providing tangible evidence of the remarkable gifts emerging when children are encouraged and supported in their journey through the visual arts.
