Xilinx funds MOUSE Squad program

Almaden Country School received a $1,500 grant from Xilinx to support its MOUSE Squad program thanks to the efforts of parents Jay and Lisa Walstrum.
MOUSE Squad is a Middle School elective that trains and deploys students to perform basic technology maintenance and repair across the campus, extending the reach of the school's Network Administrator while providing the students with relevant, applied tech experience.
Directory of Technology Mrs. Gay is leading the effort and training a group of ACS middle schoolers to complete basic maintenance and repairs on computer hardware.
The granting agency, Xilinx’s Global Community Relations Program, strives to help improve the quality of life within its community through a combination of partnerships, funding and volunteerism. Their role is to also focus on the education of the youth within our community and provide resources that can help shape these future business leaders.
A strong advocate for technology education in the Bay Area, Xilinx has supported ACS in the past with grants to help the school purchase interactive electronic whiteboards for the classrooms.
"We know that children learn best by doing," says Dr. Ole Jorgenson, head of school, "The MOUSE Squad program epitomizes hands-on, minds-on applied learning. It's critical that our students have an opportunity to pursue their passions and interests in technology, while contributing in real ways by helping our teachers keep their equipment in top condition.
